[ ain't this a mood, frankly. wenzhou hasn't checked what time it is because he... doesn't really have anywhere he needs to be, save for exploring this place, so he's just living his life.
it's probably the afternoon. ]
I have no idea. But thank god for free coffee all day.
No kidding. It's gonna suck if that ever changes, but maybe this is like our one perk of being dead. [ it is a shitty perk. they both know this. ] Haven't had to pay for any of the food yet either, so...maybe they just don't care?
Maybe not. Won't let us in to make it any better or cook something else using their kitchens, so that's the real downside to that, but I'll take what I can get for now.
[ shitty perk, but desperate times ]
Coffee for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, mix and match meatballs and burgers.
[ jonas is wandering on his way back from somewhere. there's the dregs of a cigarette in his mouth that he's going to have to finish before he heads back to his base, but he's taking a brief look around. this is how he finds lwz actually, and there's a kind of sigh of acknowledgement. ]
Are you as surprised as I am this happened already? [ the dry tone says he is not surprised at all, unfortunately. ]
[ return sigh of acknowledgment, along with a puff of smoke - he's gotten his hands on some cigarettes, too, and is currently halfway through his as he patrols around. ]
Absolutely shocked. [ yeah mood, jonas. ] Self-fulfilling prophecy. The moment that someone especially motivated saw that line in the rulebook, they were going to go for it.
I can't decide if this is somebody really brave or somebody really stupid since there's the other part of the rulebook that says we've got a trial set for tomorrow because of this.
[ new week new m(ingl)e! wenzhou wasn't sure what he was expecting, though he was somewhat hoping that there would be further access to the spaces around them. even if... that means weird tourist trap style shit. it's fine.
the cathedral is an interesting exception, sort of. he's not much usually for the historical sites at the end of the day, but it's better to check it out than to not know your surroundings.
when he spots jonas, he frowns and gestures with a tip of his chin up at the stained glass. ] What the hell?
[ yeah. yeah he's here and he's been in the cathedral for a little bit kind of gathering his thoughts about stuff. he's not at all surprised he's not alone, and likewise he's not at all surprised when wenzhou draws attention to the stained glass. ]
Pretty sure it's blasphemous to say that in a church, man. [ it's clear he's kidding, especially when he tilts his head up to squint at the glass, too. ] But yeah it's like...it looks totally fine and normal at first until it's suddenly not, which is a lot less surprising than it should be.
Surprised I didn't catch on fire the moment I walked in, so let 'em smite me for that.
[ pretty casually said, but at least he's not lighting a cigarette in here. mostly he's just assessing the various depictions in the glass. ] Pigs are a little... weird. And that old - guy? Person.
[ looking up directly into the eyes of mother peter. ]
It's been a while since I've been in a church. Usually it's all images of like angels and stuff, so...maybe that's the UG's version of things. [ he sounds exhausted as he says this. ]
[ the park is kind of maybe a little bit of a weird place to be after rin died, but to avoid an entire place also seems a little weird. it's why jonas is here, and he's falling into step with wenzhou pretty easily as they walk the perimeter. ]
Who knew it'd be sheer luck that'd save us yesterday?
[ wenzhou, at least, is avoiding the lake. but he's not about to avoid the place entirely, because... yeah. it would be a little weird. ]
Sometimes that's what does it. Sheer luck. It borders a fine line with stupidity. [ that's why dumb luck is a thing. ] I don't want to think about the case where we don't get lucky.
Then we need to really start getting better at this. Yesterday was somehow even worse than the week before, and that was even with some of the BDSM members practically telling us they were responsible for it.
The fun game of "is this a confession, or is this someone framing them for a crime."
[ he rubs a thumb against his brow, tired. ]
It'd help if we had forensic equipment. We have some of the procedures figured out, for the way this place works, but it wouldn't hurt to tighten them up more.
[ once fei du's been taken care of, wenzhou is just - walking. roaming. nearly pacing. when he spots jonas he makes his way over to him, moving to drop down and sit with him for a quiet moment of twin trails of smoke.
he's keeping his emotions settled in place, though there's an active despair behind it. ]
[ he's truly just sitting off by himself and staring into the void, cigarette in mouth and kind of doing his level best not to focus on how he's feeling.
it's not doing much, given the bubbling sort of anger and frustration and grief that sift around in blips.
he does, at least, blink slowly when he notices wenzhou in front of him. ]
...I don't get why it had to go like this. [ which isn't saying much. but it's a start. ]
I don't, either. [ he'll swing around to sit with him, tapping out some ash off his cigarette. ] I've seen a lot of shit, but this... this is out of the realm of right or wrong.
Losing four people in less than four days, eight in three weeks, all of them victims in different ways?
[ anger, frustration, grief, small sparks of emotion in the numb darkness. ]
[ throws a dart and assigns us at mime-a mia. which is to say, jonas is heading out of the cafe with a cup of coffee by the time he bumps into wenzhou on the street. he looks a little startled, like he hadn't expected to actually see him, but he does greet him with a little nod. ]
Hey. How's it going...? [ there are probably pigs lurking, but it's fine. their time will come. ]
[ mime-a mia... the worst place to be, but also the best coffee in this, the ug. wenzhou also startles, hand coming up on instinct to make sure no one eats shit or bumps around more literally. ]
Long day already, so another cup of coffee's in order. Looks like you had the right idea.
The mimes are getting a little less creepy by the day, even if I still have, like, zero inclination to stay there than I have to. Mondays are always full of bullshit though so it's a sacrifice I'm willing to make, you know?
[ and speaking of sacrifices. not long after he says that, a piggy noise comes scurrying around the corner, pingponging between both wenzhou and jonas and locking the two of them into a barrier, and wenzhou is soon treated to a memory that ends at 01:09:46 and is very funny in retrospect of tuesday's events since i'd planned on giving you this anyway. ]
i can imagine you're probably getting a lot of these kinds of messages today and i can imagine most of them probably aren't as helpful as we think they might be but go ahead and add me to the pile ig if there's anything i can do to help just say the word man i'm sorry this happened
Condolences aren't ever nearly as helpful as we want them to be, you know? Been there. Kind of had to be with my job. But people mean it, and they still mean something to me.
I'll manage. Have to with 4 cases. But I asked Alex if she could keep an eye on the ladies during strip search, so Just keep a lookout for things that seem off? We can't let what happened last week happen again.
believe me, i know but i guess that's true there's something to be said about intent god. we messed up with two cases last time, how the hell are we going to manage four? there WAS the weird hangman message from earlier we're gonna have to force the issue this time. no more excuses but i'll do my best it feels like it gets worse and worse each week the more people learn certain tricks nobody can let their guard down
