[ jonas is wandering on his way back from somewhere. there's the dregs of a cigarette in his mouth that he's going to have to finish before he heads back to his base, but he's taking a brief look around. this is how he finds lwz actually, and there's a kind of sigh of acknowledgement. ]

Are you as surprised as I am this happened already? [ the dry tone says he is not surprised at all, unfortunately. ]

[ return sigh of acknowledgment, along with a puff of smoke - he's gotten his hands on some cigarettes, too, and is currently halfway through his as he patrols around. ]

Absolutely shocked. [ yeah mood, jonas. ] Self-fulfilling prophecy. The moment that someone especially motivated saw that line in the rulebook, they were going to go for it.

I can't decide if this is somebody really brave or somebody really stupid since there's the other part of the rulebook that says we've got a trial set for tomorrow because of this.

Desperation makes people do stupid shit.

[ or risky shit. or things like murder people. he taps out some ash with a heavy inhale of fresh air. ]

Or confidence. Depends on which one they are, I guess.

In this case? I'm not sure which one I'd rather it be. Desperation just feels sort of sad, but...a confident murderer sounds like they'd be a pain in the ass to catch, too.

Usually, yeah. Desperate ones make more mistakes and it makes them easier to find. Confident ones... they can slip up, but harder to find what they've left behind.

We're in for it if we get any of them.

Makes enough sense. [ ... ] How much experience do you have with this kind of thing anyway?

Seven years. Started my first year under my shifu at 22.

[ dissociates into the void of that ]

Oh. [ damn. okay. that is a long time actually. ] And at the risk of sounding like a total idiot, what's a shifu?
