[ happy monday!! while amelia's wandering around today, she may come across the skatepark! and in coming across the skatepark, she may come across jonas who's on a board and lazily drifting back and forth, not really doing anything much but simply being happy to be on a skateboard at all.
it does make it easier for him to look up and wave. ]
Amelia, hey! [ for once he looks. pleased? he's maybe a little lowkey excited for something like this. ]
[ good to know that at least she's still doing well in the vibes. good vibes...weirdly, there's a flicker of something like being grateful? for the good vibes? hard to say. ]
Skate park. [ he gestures with a hand, before using the same hand to gesture at his feet where the board rolls back and forth. ] And skateboard. Which I'm gonna guess means you guys don't have anything similar to this?
It's pretty easy once you get the hang of it, but it's mostly about balance. [ glancing back at the rental area for a moment, and he appears to be thinking it over. ]
I could teach you a little if you wanted. For fun.
[ we love enthusiasm in this house! it's better than being depresso!! the minute she grabs a skateboard, he's picking his up to tuck under his arm and gesturing for her to follow him to a more flat part of the park, out of the way of other people. ]
Okay. First thing's first, let's test your balance. [ he drops the board on the ground before stepping on one foot at a time to show her. ] Try to step on and see if you can stand.
[She follows his example and steps on the board! Except she doesn't follow it close enough, because it slips out from her as she tries to put her second foot on it, and she stumbles back.]
[ there's a little spike of alarm in his emotions when she stumbles, but he's immediately moving to steady her, at least. drift aura helps in being quick and when he's sure she won't topple he takes a step back to show her again. ]
Here, place your feet behind the bolts. [ gesturing toward the two spaces behind the wheels. ] And try to bend your knees just a little to adjust your weight on it.
[Amelia, on the other hand, doesn't seem too bothered at almost falling on her ass. She gives him a grateful grin before watching closely at his next demonstration.]
Like... this?
[She places her feet as he showed her, and wobbles a little as she shifts her weight until she seems to find the right balance.
...
She waits a few seconds, just to be sure she's actually balanced, then gives him a thumbs-up!]
[ she's a good sport and he's so glad for that. but once she's balanced, he gives her a thumbs up back! ]
Cool! Cool, okay, so you have that part down. We're not going to start you moving yet because I want to make sure you're gonna be able to know how to turn so you aren't running into walls or anything. So we're gonna practice swiveling your board.
See if you can follow? [ he's balanced on his board, and he's suddenly swinging his body to direct the front of the board to pivot to another corner. he continues to do so in slow, steady swings, tracing the swiveling board in a square sort of shape. ]
[Ohh! She's impressed at the little maneuver. She studies the footwork, and the way his weight shifts, and then she gives it a try!
I rolled a 17 so I guess her observation was on point -- it takes a few tries and a few awkward movements, but before long she manages to nail it a couple of times in a row!
Jonas gets to feel her immediate sense of accomplishment.]
[ he doesn't make notes, simply moving and letting her follow along before there's another blip of amusement, followed by something akin to ease. like he's glad he's able to teach her something and that she's happy with it. ]
See? Once you get the center of balance thing down it's a lot easier to stay up. [ he takes a moment to think though. ] ...what do you say? Wanna try adding some speed?
You really have no fear, do you? [ hysterical. but he stops what he's doing, adjusting so that one foot is on the ground and the other is still on his board for her to see. he keeps the foot on the board, but he begins to walk to push himself along, one foot still on the ground at all times while slowly picking up speed. ]
She follows his lead, and pushes herself forward! She holds out her arms, as if to keep herself balanced that way. Is it helping? Unclear. But she hasn't toppled over yet!]
[ he's not going to correct her form, letting her do what she thinks is comfortable as he continues to push and skate alongside her. he seems to be thinking that over at least. ]
Don't lose sight of that. Probably gonna be way more important than you think down the line.
[ annnnd there it is. he watches the skateboard start to roll away and instead of being remotely helpful for a moment, he hovers over her with a grin. sorry. it's funny. ]
Maybe forging ahead with your eyes forward is a better idea. You okay? [ he will at least offer a hand to help her up. ]
w2 monday

[She waves cheerfully and bounds over to see this thing he's on!]
What's that?
[Good news: as she comes closer, all he'll get from her are genuine curiosity and generally good vibes.]

I've never seen one before... How do you use it?

I could teach you a little if you wanted. For fun.

[who needs emotionsharing? the enthusiasm is immediate and is written as clearly in her expression as it is in the air.]
Okay, let me grab one too!
[she runs off and quickly comes back, carrying a second skateboard!]

I won't. Forging ahead without fear is what I do best! No matter--

she shifts her weight the other way, but overcorrects, and]
WAAH!
[falls on her ass. the skateboard shoots out from under her feet.]

[She'll reach up to take his hand and pull herself up to her feet.]
I'm good!!
[Then she takes off to go chase down the runaway skateboard and try again!]

Try to remember that you want your feet balanced right at the bolts so that doesn't happen. It helps keep the board from doing...well. That. [ haha. ]
Anyway what were you saying?
