Just one... but a barrier that was big enough to seal off an entire continent! It was powered by the four most powerful demons in the world... and they don't exactly make their locations known to humans, most of the time. So it wasn't until after a thousand years that one of them was finally defeated.
That's a long time for a whole continent to be separated from the rest of the world. [ it's a little impressive. ] What about the other three demons? Does it not matter if they're still around since at least one of them was killed?
As far as the barrier's concerned, not really! It's down for good.
But in the sense that they're still a threat to humanity, well... there is that. I'm pretty sure they've all been working on their own evil schemes, somewhere in the shadows...
That doesn't sound too surprising. But just more stuff to focus on in the fight to get back, right? [ it sounds like an overall world problem. ] It's...kind of weird to hear about other people mention stuff like threats to humanity or monsters or whatever. It all sounds so important.
You could say that. [ he thinks of how to describe normal earth to someone from a place very obviously different. ] There're wars and stuff in different parts of the world, and there are definitely things on smaller scales that're pretty bad but nothing like demons with magic powers or monsters that're threatening to destroy our nations or anything like that.
For the most part, it's just...people living their every day lives and trying to figure out how to get by.
Is something like that...unusual for you to hear? [ it's a guess based on what she says she's fighting for and what she's just said, but it's still wild to hear about. ]
Well... I guess it's a different kind of hardship, when your biggest threats are just people with different goals and values... and we've got plenty of those conflicts where I'm from, too...
But I feel like... even though it's hard, and it can take a long time, it's possible to reach some kind of understanding and find a peaceful resolution!
[ makes sense to him. he's letting her talk it out, and it's not something he disagrees with either. it's always possible to reach some kind of understanding. it's more a matter of if people will bother. ]
Yeah. Can't say I'd imagine you could. Not that I have experience with demons but...you know. Stories I've heard and stuff. It almost feels both easier and harder though, maybe? Like knowing what the solution is but not always the problem, versus knowing the problem but not always the solution.

You never really had the chance to go places before? Or you mean because we're all from completely different worlds?
[ how far away is faraway... ]

But until recently, it was impossible to go much farther! There was a barrier around our continent, so nobody could venture beyond those limits.
Now the barrier's gone, and what's more, I get to meet people not just from the far reaches of the world, but from other worlds entirely!

A barrier? Like the ones here and everything? How'd you guys bring it down?

We killed one of the demons who created it. It was powered by their magic!

[It sounds hopeful, to her ears.]

You can't really do that with demons.
