...why's that always the way, anyway? Rin was going to try to figure out how to survive and learn to love swimming again. Buzen had Matsui and they just wanted more time together. And now this. Why is it these people that get chosen?
I know we have to accept it, but I don't think it means we have to forgive that it happened either.
I think we're all discovering what it means to have a second chance and reconsidering what it means to live.
[ The vaguest and most optimistic way to say that it'll just become harder from here on out. Everyone has a reason to return... Or they're finding the will to live. Bad. Vash closes his eyes. ]
This reaper's game—there was another one before this one. Sounds like there were more. To think an awful system like this can be replicated and ran more than once is...
The whole "don't take life for granted" thing? You're...probably not wrong, now that I think about it. [ and that really just makes it worse, actually! wow! it sort of makes him mad all over again, biting at the inside of his cheek before he can continue and waiting for vash to finish speaking. ]
...there's been a lot of them, according to the reapers. [ curiously though, he looks over at him. ] You've heard something else then?
[ it's a tentative question just to see how much vash knows about what's been going on. ]
[ HIGH STAKES, SAD THOUGHTS ALL AROUND. Vash doesn't say more on that... They don't need to dwell on people considering their mortality, what that may mean for their dreams. ]
I know about the notes from those missions and someone told me about the erased being on a different frequency. Then some who end up killing could be either blackmailed or bribed...
[ So he thinks not much i have been struggle busing on audiences this game ]
[ they have the same understanding and that's really all jonas needs to know in order to feel like he can actually talk to vash in general, really. ]
I'm gonna assume Livio told you guys about the third note then? We heard from...I have no idea who, Alex just told us. I've heard about the phone calls, too, but...I'm not sure about the erased being on a different frequency. When I asked the reapers before, they told me erased just meant erased, period. But I'd heard about the frequency thing, too.
... That's right. In general, I don't like what I've learned. The stakes are higher than I thought, if these messages are credible.
[ He isn't buying it immediately, but it isn't like the stakes weren't high already. It is just... Worse. There's a pause as he thinks about it because how many worlds could be wiped out at the end of this, if real?
ohhh
he slaps the sides of his face to stop himself from getting depressed and insecure. ]
It's hard for me not to latch onto the possibility that they're out there, in some under-underground. UUG? And that we might be able to reach them. [ Strokes chin. ] Did you ever learn why Rin showed up in trial that week?
Yeah...I told Wolfwood on Tuesday and he sort of left me on read. It's been pretty bad having to think about how real these things could be. When I asked the reapers they said they'd check if they were meant to be about our game but that it was pretty likely. More or less.
[ which...not good. bad actually? he frowns to himself, but then vash is continuing and he blinks at the subject change. ]
I have a few thoughts, but nothing solid. Why, did you? Or do you think it's part of the UUG that could exist?
... Wolfwood has his reasons, so don't think he's ignoring you.
[ Vash tries to reassure even if Jonas isn't insecure about it. ]
Well, the shadow people here are living people and when we enter buildings or try to get services from them, that's when we appear to them before disappearing. I wondered if that could have been what happened to Rin, but at a limited capacity. Maybe for a short time, under certain conditions, frequencies almost match. Sure, his body was still on the table, but we are allegedly souls, too, yet we have pulses and we can physically touch each other.
[ Don't think too much about are we dead mechanics. Thinking some more. ]
But that's if frequency and UUG have any weight to them. It's all theory, especially when we haven't seen this happen again. It could have just been a curse. A very... Unsettling one.
[ ... ]
I was just curious if you knew why he showed up or not. It really messed up Livio, so...
[ hysterically no he was actually insecure about this so thank you vash. ]
So like his soul just slipped in and out of place? Maybe. I hadn't really thought about it that way, I sort of assumed it was like a team psych or something. Mostly because, like, like you said why just Rin...? Why not anybody else somehow?
I don't have an actual answer though. I just wish I did.
[ we love the "suddenly i'm insecure" week it's hilarious. ]
I'm more inclined to believing it's a psych if we saw it happen more than once. [ Speaking of psychs. ] Maybe we should assemble a list of what psychs we know exist or what we're assuming are psychs, actually. Another time.
It's all right. It's all just... Wondering, I guess. So many things are kind of unexplainable.
[ back to the "I really don't know why things happen sometimes, they just do" vibe. ]
How do we know Rin isn't the one who activated it before D killed him? That's kind of what I was thinking. I asked the reapers about why we saw him, and they could only tell me they couldn't answer any part of the case that I didn't know about myself. [ but hm...he nods to that. ] I don't disagree. We all know everybody has a team psych, at least. But who knows what any of them do.
[ there is that though. ]
I feel like the explanation here, more often than not, is really just "why not?" considering we're all dead. Somehow it's easier that way.
Think about it. If someone had an ability like that, you could really trick people into thinking someone else was there and get them to do or say whatever you want. Or at least what they'd say to that person. [ it's a thought, anyway. ]
You ever think we're really not supposed to have a real answer?
I would love if less happened for more reasons, but you know. Beggars, choosers. I feel like it takes away from the intensity of the game if we always get what we want.
