To be completely fair, we're dead. I think the whole point is that even the most nonsensical of things is sensical enough.
[ also anais are you hitting me with a mem first or do you wanna because there are definitely pig noise just roaming around the area because i said so. ]
[ Not that what she's about to say will matter for long; there's a little piggy oink nearby, the pitter-patter of hooves, and within seconds Jonas will get brainblasted with a fun little flashback:
It's late, yet in spite of the time you find yourself walking down a sidewalk through Akihabara. A man swiftly strides ahead of you; he's much taller, with long blonde hair tied back, wearing a black coat, and you have to hop into a little jog to keep up with how quick he walks. Not that it's a problem—you're both in a hurry.
You both pass by numerous shops and businesses until a decorative sign is spotted, reading, "SUNFISH POCKET - 2F" with an arrow pointing toward an elevator. Silence hangs in the air, tense, until the doors open at the second floor and you step off, looking around the hall with a frown.
"... It's dark," you say, puzzled. It's late, but you're almost certain the café should be open for a few hours longer.
The man with you hums in acknowledgement. Whether he finds this strange too is uncertain, but he doesn't pause before leading to the entrance. As he opens the door, you follow after him, and you both pause the moment you set foot within.
There isn't a soul within the establishment—a restaurant that has clearly taken on the beaches and ocean as its interior décor inspiration—and it's dark, but all the flashing signs and lights from the streets illuminate the room with enough light to see.
And see you do. Your eyes grow wide, you stop breathing, and something heavy feels as though it drops to the pit of your stomach. Across the room, a body—quite literally, a human body—hangs from the ceiling, suspended in the air by rope and a large hook clawed into his mouth. There might be blood on his face, but at this point, all reasonable thought has left you.
Daddy—
You let out an agonizing wail, and the rest is a blur.
[ oh i fucking hate this. WELL UH. THAT WAS NOT A FUN BRAINBLAST. actually, this is fucking terrible and jonas looks alarmed once the memory clears from his vision to where he can focus his attention on mizuki. he's kind of speechless, actually, because it's very obvious this man was fucking murdered.
and also, 12 is extremely young to be losing a parent in the first place.
he takes a few moments to collect himself, thinking of how he wants to address what he just saw. ]
...Mizuki. [ it's level, mostly gauging. ] How...long ago was that...? [ because, again, that sure did look recent!!! ]
[ ty: gimme something early game me, chinhandsing: ty knows perfectly well what happens early in this game
Well. Of all the things for these stupid, goddamn pigs to air out—Mizuki genuinely hadn't expected that. A little horrified, she takes an instinctive step back, gaze hitting the (cloudy?) ground below. ]
[ instinctively, he reaches a hand out to stop her from getting too far but without actually grabbing onto her. ]
It's okay. This has been...happening on and off today because of the stupid pigs. I don't think anybody gets to pick what people are seeing. [ which is annoying but that's a whole other problem. he takes a breath though. ]
Yeah. Yeah, no, I get that that was a...very stupid question in retrospect but you get what I mean. [ there's a pause. ] ...this has been going around all day. Kind of a huge pain in the ass.
[ and then another pause. ]
I'm...sorry. That you had to see something like that.
Kind of. [ god. ] It would still be fair even if you hadn't. Did you guys...ever figure out what happened? [ also who's the other guy. he has questions. ]
Sorry, my bad. I shouldn't be asking, it doesn't matter in this case. It's still...shitty. [ and you know what else is shitty? this memory lasting to 3:15:57 even if he doesn't entirely recall alex calling out for him. ]
Unsurprising. That was the night Alex and I met, so we lived through all of that together. It was her and her friends' idea to go to the island, but...we tuned into the rift.
...that music was just the ghosts messing around and trying to get us closer as a trap. And I knew it was probably a trap, but I went closer to it anyway.
[ ...if he hadn't just seen her memory he'd probably leave it alone, but. ]
She hasn't been gone for very long. So at the time, I was desperate to see her again. Made me easy prey, I guess. Word of advice? If something like that ever happens to you here or otherwise, don't listen until you have more proof.
They'd been screwing with us and the timeloops all night. I think we were all just done. Maybe things would've been different if it weren't six in the morning and we weren't trying to save ourselves with a last-ditch effort.
