[ NOOOOOO NOT HER CRINGE ANIME BACKSTORYYYY (thank u for reading) ]
[ ...all she can think, is that it isn't the worst thing he could see. she holds no shame for her actions, or her grief. even if her sadness is something she's quietly put beside her, something to reflect on but not something to stop her from moving forward, or from living.
she doesn't mind telling him, because he isn't mincing words, either. ]
There was no way I was letting him get away with what he did to me.
...I hadn't even realize I'd been betrayed, until it was far too late. But in the end, he was the fool for messing with me.
[ he had taught her everything she needed to know to behead him, after all. ]
[ he has to try his hardest not to just say "good." like he even knows the guy involved. he has no idea who the chief was, or what he had done to her. he doesn't know jackshit about her history, really, but he does at least think that perhaps yuzuriha is the kind of person who doesn't actually act senselessly. she's too smart for that.
but there's something a little sad still even in what she says that he isn't sure how close he can touch or unravel. ]
As far as I know, the people who're the best at manipulating others always get away with way too much before anyone catches on. But by then, there's more than enough reason for revenge. [ he's not always about revenge himself, usually one to try and keep peace, but sometimes...it's really not an option. ] Sort of sounds like he got a little too comfortable with who you were to him and didn't think anything of it.
You're right about that. I'm pretty sure we've got at least one or two of 'em here as well. [ people who are best at manipulating others. she looks contemplative for a moment, expression slightly terse, before it settles into something more neutral. ]
He [ the clan chief, who is unnamed because this canon hates me ] thought of me as just another tool at his disposal. I was young when we first met, with very few options.
[ she says it matter-of-factly, and shrugs. she isn't one to talk about her past, but it's come up so many times today already, it's unavoidable. some things are worth clarifying rather than allowing for pointless speculation. ]
[ he raises an eyebrow because he doesn't disagree, but he is curious to know who she thinks might fall into that category.
but that's later. this is more important. so much, in fact, that he's asking questions and i will give a mem in my next tag instead. ]
And when you feel like you don't have options, even the slightest one that looks salvageable is something you hold onto no matter how good it might actually be for you. I think it's probably more unfair to recognize it and not be able to do anything about it, but...I also don't think anyone would blame you for doing what you did. Without knowing the history, who can say anything?
[ desperate time, etc. she's glad he can spell it out for himself.
—also, she says this gently, ] You don't have to reassure me. I don't really care what others think about my decisions.
[ and, she's not used to others being so concerned about her. it's not a bad thing, she just doesn't want him to get the wrong idea or expend too much emotional energy on something she's put behind her. ]
I know I don't. I never thought you did ever since we met. I think that's probably one of your better qualities anyway if you really wanna know. [ he thinks he can sympathize with what he saw in the memory and still respect the way she owns up to it because murder is, in fact, still kind of a big deal no matter how justified it is. ] If I wanted to really sugarcoat things, you'd know. Trust me.
[ this is unfortunately all he gets to say on that though because the barrier's still up. it means that not long after, something occurs until 01:09:46 even though i truly struggled between deciding to give you this or give you one of my pre-game ones. ]
[ RUNS BACK HERE, I dId WATCH EVIL HANGMAN BTW AHHHHHHHHHH
their conversation cuts off as the memory suddenly plays like a sharp crackle of static, a terrible noise in her head that echoes ominously even when it ends.
she looks startled for a moment, then her expression quickly sets into a frown. ]
[ he like. wasn't super present for that conversation, but he does remember a little of it and he frowns at that. ]
Yeah. Something like that. [ ...this is something alex and jonas have gone back and forth on quite about. how much of the island they want to talk about. alex keeps saying jonas can say whatever he wants, and for a while jonas has refused to talk about it. but. ]
...how much did Alex tell you? [ he's willing to try, a little, it seems. ]
[ really, yuzuriha does not know too much. just two sets of memories without too much context. of course, she knows there were ghosts involved who wanted to take over their lives. ]
She mentioned you went home after dawn, on a ferry. That her friends were fine—so I assumed that means you as well. ...Said she didn't get possessed permanently, but not much more than that.
[ unfortunately when yuzuriha says that, he just looks extremely irritated for like five seconds before it disappears. ]
Yeah. No, that's about what she'd say, yeah. [ ... ] We got off the island and on the ferry fine. The ghosts were sealed back into the void not long after the memory you saw from her. We were working on a pretty short deadline...sunrise would've been too late. But we made it work.
I'm not sure. The last thing either of us remembers is being on that ferry. [ he thinks. this might not actually be true for alex but for him it is and what he remembers of alex. ] So something had to have happened between leaving the island and getting back to shore. But it's not like we were by ourselves either.

[ a shrug. ]
I still don't really know.
