At least you've got your priorities straight. [ this actually tracks for her, so there's nothing but faint amusement from him. ]
Supposedly to prevent complacency. Which, you know, kind of sounds like bullshit? I don't get how anybody could be complacent when it's our lives on the line here.
[ it may have been rhetorical or maybe lambda had her own thoughts on it, but he's just saying it anyway. ]
But then again maybe there are still people who aren't taking this as seriously as they could.
It is ridiculous. It'd make us less complacent to see all the results.
[ it'd be easier to track how much of a point bump murder would give. ]
Even if people aren't taking it as seriously at this point, which is absurd after last week, people should still want to know their place. Even if they view it as simply a game or otherwise, it's not as if most people have an inclination to lose.
Yeah, see, I had the same thought. You'd think people would be more likely to act if they knew exactly which teams needed to be knocked down a few pegs. I couldn't even get a straight answer on how many points things were worth or what could be done to figure out where we rank.
[ boo. ]
Do you think people are naturally competitive? [ it's an implication, but you could still decide you don't want to lose without really putting up a fight for it. ]
They're even more cagey than I am. [ but it's not like she knows what kinds of rules they have to follow, if they do have rules. ] Unless they want to keep a murderer's identity secret if we fail to figure it out in time...
[ which she still thinks it's better to know what teams should be knocked down a few pegs, like jonas said. ]
I don't, but I don't understand people who don't try to be their best or do their best at something.
[ it doesn't have to be competition-based. it can be anything. ]
I got the impression that even if we solved who the culprit was, they can't tell us everything about how things went down. So if we failed to catch someone, it's probably something like that. If the points value for an erasure is as high as they say it is, then it'd be pretty obvious it's one of four people.
Still. That's a risk that should be taken in a competition like this. If you're going to play the game, you should remember the consequences.
[ she says that, and there's a flicker in his emotions that's both a flag of uncertainty, a dash of agitation, but ultimately stubbornness and agreement. ]
Pretty sure that depends on what you define as weak and strong. Or, actually, what "their best" looks like. Someone's best might be my worst attempt. [ it seems like an excuse from those hypothetical people though. ]
